Since we're all fessing up here's one for you. I have an electric automatic gate on my driveway up near the road. Since it's such a pain to always have to get on and off the tractor I started driving up real close to it so I could lean way over and flip the power on and off. To get close enough I have to raise my front end loader higher than the gate. So one day I pull up real close to the gate, throw the tractor out of gear and lean way over to reach the power switch on the gate. Unfortunately my big ole belly leaned over with me and pressed against the joystick on my loader sending it downward with full force onto my gate burying it about 3 inches into the ground and twisting the hinges and pins all to heck. I spent about 2 hours fixing the thing. Didn't take that long to install it.

I'm trying to pick out a 6' rear discharge mower for cutting bermuda grass. Looking at Bush Hog, Land Pride and Woods. Was wondering about the importance of some features such as...... 1)Front and rear wheels that are not inline and therefore don't track over the same ground. 2)Weight... is heavy better for mowing? BH has a heavier gauge deck than the Woods yet weighs 62 lbs less. Makes me think some corners are being cut somewhere. 3)How important is blade tip speed? LP is 1500fpm faster than BH. Is faster better after a certain point or simply overkill? What about air tires versus solid?Like I said I'll be cutting bermuda and the ground is somewhat uneven and sloped. I don't think I will be likely to scalp but it is a possibility. Would appreciate all opinions before I spend this much money. The wife is dead against it since our riding mower works fine. :^/

I use Farm Bureau for all of my insurance. They provide me with $16000 worth of coverage for my tractors and implements for $87 a year. I have a $100 deductible and I'm covered for overturn, collision with stationary and nonstationary objects, flood, collapse of culverts, theft, all acts of nature and most importantly, RIOTS! And many more incidents as well.

Looking for some advice. I need to mow around the edge of a pond. There is a space about 2-3 feet all of the way around it I can't get to because it is either too steep and I'm scared or it is too soft and I'll sink in. People in my area have recommended a sickle mower but I haven't found one yet in four months that my NH 1720 can handle. The ones I have located are all for tractors with more PTO horsepower or they have sat out in the field so long they are frozen solid with corrosion. I've also thought about fencing it in (eyesore) and adding goats or whatever but didn't want to wade through goat pellets to fish. The pond partially adjoins my yard so I wanted it to look half-way nice. Right now the pond is walled in with 4-5 foot high weeds and brush except for the few places I have cleaned out with a weedeater for fishing access. I've thought about spraying also but that can't be good for the water or the fish. There has to be a solution out there that I am just too green to see. I even though about grass carp but they wouldn't clean out far enough from the edge to make a difference. Geez........ Will someone help me out.

I bought a new NH 1720 a few months back and it came with tubes both front and rear. Therefore it shouldn't matter what they were filled with. Though I suppose over time the calcium could cause problems for the valve stem. Tube would be cheaper than a wheel. Down here in Mississippi everyone I ever heard of uses antifreeze in their tires. Never even heard of calcium till I got on this board. Antifreeze sure is messy when you get a flat!

I bought a 2wd 1720, loader, and a 5' bush hog for $14,350. The loader was a Bush Hog brand for $2850 so your price of $2600 looks great to me. Looking back I wish I had purchased a tractor with 4wd. I have some soft areas on my land and the wrecker has been out here more than once. But I am learning where I can go and where I cannot.

I have some geek questions. I read so much about calcium filled tires on this board. I honestly don't what this is. Everyone, and I mean all of the dealers and all of the farmers I know of, use antifreeze here in Misissippi. Are we missing something down here? Does calcium weigh more? Is it cheaper? Are we ruining our wheels/tires here and we don't even know it? Any info is more than I have now. Thanks.

Thanks for the info guys. It helped to establish a baseline to work from. I ended up closing a deal for 10,890.<br>Plus I bought a 5 foot Bush Hog brand cutter for $485.<br>The dealer is ordering a frontend loader for $2,895.<br>All equipment is new. Total for a NH 1720, 5 ft. cutter and a frontend loader is $14,270.<br>Jeff Cochran
